Anna Nordqvist

Anna Nordqvist with the AIG Women

One of the most successful golfers of her generation, Anna Nordqvist secured the third major of her career by claiming victory at the AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie in 2021.

Five behind at halfway, a sparkling Saturday 65 gave her a share of the lead with Nanna Koerstz Madsen and they were still level with a hole to play, but Nordqvist’s par to Madsen’s double bogey meant a one-stroke victory for the Swedish star.

Nordqvist served notice of her potential by winning a major – the 2009 LPGA Championship – just six months, and five events, after turning pro.

She quickly followed this up with victory in the LPGA Tour Championship in the November for her second victory of the season and was subsequently named Rookie of the Year on the Ladies European Tour.

After losing a US Women's Open play-off to Brittany Lang in 2016, Nordqvist won the Evian Championship a year later – after more sudden death drama against Brittany Altomare – for her second major success.

Nordqvist has nine LPGA Tour victories and four Solheim Cup wins from seven appearances, and she is the only non-American woman to have won major championships in three different decades (2000s, 2010s and 2020s).
