Charley Hull was true to her word when she said she planned to go hunting birdies on Moving Day.
She carded seven of them as she fired her way into contention.
Now the 29-year-old says she is ready to go in hunt of the leaders, a prospect she is relishing with a thrilling final day at Royal Porthcawl ahead.
Hull enjoyed a storming Saturday as the winds continued to blow on the Welsh coastline.
An early birdie on the 2nd set the tone as the fan favourite raced up the leaderboard. Further birdies followed on the 5th and 6th, before a quality approach to around five feet on the 7th set up another.
She gained more ground by picking up strokes at the 9th, 12th and 13th, and went on to sign for a super 66.
At six-under-par she is finely poised and well within striking distance, and after her round she said there is nowhere she would rather be.
“I kind of enjoy chasing. It’s quite fun. I like it. It’s more fun that way”, said Hull.
“I like hunting someone down. It was good fun, and [we’ll] see what she [Yamashita] does this afternoon and just focus again tomorrow.”
Yamashita thrilled the crowds on Friday with a seven-under-par round of 65, but Hull has now gained considerable ground – going from 11 shots back to within three shots entering the final day.
A clutch of other top names including A Lim Kim, Andrea Lee, Minami Katsu and Megan Khang – along with Rio Takeda who was Yamashita’s closest challenger overnight – are also firmly in contention.
However, Hull will surely garner the most support from a vocal Welsh crowd as the blustery conditions roll in on Sunday.
And she cannot wait to get back in front of the fans for the final round.
“It's always great to hear people shout your name. I think it's always good fun,” she said.
“I just like going out there enjoy playing golf. Kind of like playing golf with your mates. You just want to make birdies on every hole. That's how it feels tomorrow.”
