Andalucía and Costa del Sol Tourist Board have become an Official Sponsor of the 2023 AIG Women’s Open, which teed off at Walton Heath on Thursday.

Andalucía is the government ministry of tourism, culture, and sport of the region, which is an outstanding tourism destination in the south of Spain. More than 400,000 tourists visit Andalucía every year to play golf, with the region being home to more than 100 golf courses. This accounts for nearly 22 per cent of the total courses in Spain, making it the highest concentration of course on the Continent of Europe.

Costa del Sol Tourist Board is dedicated to the promotion of Costa del Golf and provides advice and support to its partners throughout the golf industry. The Costa del Sol has been recognised as a top European Golf Destination by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

The Costa del Sol is a leading destination for golfers who seek a wide variety of quality golf courses and ideal golfing weather through 12 months of the year. With over seventy golf courses, many of which were conceived by masters of golf course design, the Costa del Sol enjoys worldwide prestige.

Showing its commitment to women’s golf, Andalucía and Costa del Sol will host the 2023 Solheim Cup, to be held at Finca Cortesín from 18-24 September.

Neil Armit, Chief Commercial Officer of The R&A said: “We would like to welcome Andalucía and Costa del Sol Tourist Board as an official sponsor of the AIG Women’s Open. This partnership illustrates our shared commitment to women’s golf. We are grateful for the support of Andalucía and Costa del Sol Tourist Board and look forward to working with our new partners for 2023.”

Arturo Bernal, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Government of Andalucía, said: “In a year in which women's golf takes special prominence in Andalusia with the celebration of the Solheim Cup, our presence at the AIG Women’s Open is strategic and crucial. In addition, it is at a time when Spanish and Andalusian players are also acquiring a strong position in the sport. Women's golf in Andalusia already represents almost 27% of the federative sporting licenses, which is much higher than other sports.”

The AIG Women’s Open is the showpiece for The R&A’s commitment to growing women's and girls' golf via the Women in Golf Charter. The Championship aims to champion the changing face of women’s golf; to inspire, engage and provoke in order to challenge perceptions that will shape the future of the sport.

In recent years the AIG Women’s Open has been played at world class venues including Royal Troon (2020), Carnoustie (2021), Muirfield (2022) and Walton Heath (2023). The next three editions of the Championship will be held at St Andrews, (2024), Royal Porthcawl (2025) and Royal Lytham & St Annes (2026) while the prize fund has been elevated by 177% since 2018.

This year, for the first time, live music will feature as part of a new, enhanced fan experience that aims to attract new and diverse audiences to the championship to enjoy women’s golf at the very highest level. BRIT Award winner Ellie Goulding will entertain fans on Saturday 12 August following the close of play.

The AIG Women’s Open is proudly supported by headline title partner AIG as well as official patrons including Andalucía and Costa del Sol Tourist Board, HSBC UK, Mastercard, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Electric, Nikon, NTT Data, Rolex, Suntory and Toyo Tires.
