Akie and her twin sister Chisato were both in the field for the 2025 AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl.

Akie Iwai was T11 on her Championship debut at Walton Heath in 2023 and improved on that performance by finishing T7 at St Andrews 12 months later. She finished T40 in Porthcawl. 

A six-time winner on the LPGA Tour of Japan, Akie triumphed for the first time on the LPGA Tour by winning the Portland Classic in August 2025.
