Alison Nicholas

Alison Nicholas with the AIG Women

One of England's finest players, Nicholas won the AIG Women's Open at St Mellion in 1987, edging out defending champion Laura Davies and America's Muffin Spencer-Devlin by a single stroke.

Nicholas was only 25 at the time and she remained a formidable force on the Ladies European Tour for more than a decade thereafter, securing 12 titles on the circuit.

She also picked up four victories on the LPGA Tour and tasted major glory 10 years on from her AIG Women's Open triumph, winning the 1997 U.S. Women's Open at Pumpkin Ridge.

Nicholas was third in the AIG Women's Open when defending her title at Lindrick in 1988 and fourth at Woburn eight years later.

A Life Member of the Ladies European Tour, Nicholas struck up a successful Solheim Cup partnership with Davies throughout the 1990s and captained the European team in 2009 and 2011.
