A professional for the last 37 years and in 2014 made Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to the sport. Only 22 when she won the AIG Women’s Open by four strokes at Royal Birkdale before it was awarded major status and a year later lifted the US Women's Open when not even a member of the LPGA Tour.
Tied with JoAnne Carner and Ayako Okamoto before beating them in an 18-hole play-off. Has since taken her total of worldwide professional victories to 87, including three more majors, and made the halfway cut at Carnoustie last year at the age of 57. Represented Europe in the first 12 Solheim Cup matches, her final appearance in 2011 coming just before her 48th birthday. That week saw her become the most successful player in the event’s history with 25 points, helping Alison Nicholas’s side to a 15-13 win.
