Lexi Thompson

Lexi Thompson

It was believed Lexi Thompson’s appearance at the AIG Women’s Open in 2024 would be her final major.

However, the American has continued to play on a part-time basis and has enjoyed a strong year in majors.

Lexi was T14 at the Chevron Championship and T12 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

That took Lexi to 38 top-25 finishes in a stellar career, with six of them coming at the AIG Women’s Open.

Lexi has been in the spotlight since she made history by qualifying for the US Women’s Open at the age of 12, taking the then record as the youngest player ever to qualify for that championship.

She turned professional at 15 and was just a year older when she became the youngest-ever winner of an LPGA Tour title at the time. Ten more have followed, including the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship at 19.

Only Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson and Morgan Pressel have won a women’s major at a younger age. Six top-seven finishes in the same event have followed, most dramatically in 2017 when she lost a play-off to Ryu So-yeon after receiving a four-stroke penalty.

She also came close to winning her second major at the 2021 US Women's Open, which was eventually won by Yuka Saso, while there was another near miss at the 2022 Women’s PGA Championship, where she led by two with three to play before losing by one shot to In Gee Chun.
