In 2007 became the first and still only player from Latin America to win the US Women’s Amateur title and the following year came a superb joint 10th at the US Open, earning low amateur honours. Two strokes better and she would have been in a tie for third. Turned professional in 2009 and at the end of season qualified for both the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour.

Has twice competed for Colombia at the Olympics and won gold at the 2015 Pan-American Games, a year after taking silver at the South America Games. Takes her place at Muirfield due to the fact that she could not play last year because of maternity after giving birth to son Lucca in January.
