Soyeon Ryu

So Yeon Ryu

Became world No.1 soon after achieving her second major victory at the 2017 ANA Inspiration, albeit in controversial fashion. Lexi Thompson held a two-stroke lead midway through the final round when she was told of a retrospective four-shot penalty for a ball-marking incident on day three. The pair finished level and Ryu birdied the first extra hole to add the title to her 2011 win in the US Open.

That was also decided in sudden death, fellow Korean Hee-kyung Seo losing the three-hole shoot-out. Has had nearly 20 top 10 finishes in majors, including third places at the AIG Women’s Open in both 2015 and 2018. She trailed Inbee Park by four at Turnberry and Georgia Hall by the same margin at Royal Lytham and St Annes.
