Lockley leads 15 qualifiers

The Buckinghamshire golf club

Harriet Lockley fired a brilliant six-under 66 to lead the qualifiers progressing to Final Qualifying for the AIG Women’s Open.

On a superb day at The Buckinghamshire, Lockley, an amateur from Wales, led the way as 15 players booked their place in the next stage.

Lockley won by one over Tara MacTaggart, who shot 67, while Lauren Horsford who was out in the first group of the day shot a 68.

Amy Walsh and Hannah McCook finished in a tie for fourth, three shots further back at one under, while amateur Patience Rhodes and former amateur star Emily Tot tied for 6th at level par.

There were 15 spots available from Pre-Qualifying at The Buckinghamshire, and after Georgina Blackman, Heather MacRae and Momoka Kobori sealed their spots with 73s, a tie emerged between six players for the last five spots at two over.

However, Amy Boulden was unable to make the playoff and so the five remaining players advanced to Final Qualifying. Ana Dawson, Luca Sasha Thompson, Nicola Slater, Beth Allen and Jessica Hall all were the beneficiaries, and will be at North Berwick.

Other notable names in Qualifying included Laura Fuenfstueck, who shot 75, Instagram star Liv Cooke, who shot 77 and Gabrielle McDonald who also shot 77.

There will be a minimum of three spots on offer from Final Qualifying.
