How to get to St Andrews

Get ready to attend the AIG Women's Open at the Old Course, St Andrews, from 21-25 August 2024.

A high number of spectators are expected to attend throughout the week. To avoid road traffic congestion, and to be kind to the environment, please consider the use of public transport or car share with your friends.

To make things a little easier, please see the travel options available to you below.

The Swilcan Bridge at St Andrews

By Rail

ScotRail provides train services from destinations across Scotland to Leuchars – the nearest station to St Andrews.

Please be aware that ScotRail have implemented a reduced timetable for the period of the AIG Women’s Open. Please ensure you plan your journey in advance and check first and last train times as train options on Saturday evening are especially limited.

GolfLink Rail and Bus Service

 You can take advantage of a special ‘rail and bus’ GolfLink ticket for travel to the Championship between Wednesday 21 and Sunday 25 August.

The two-in-one GolfLink ticket includes return rail travel to Leuchars as well as Stagecoach bus transport to and from the course.

The first buses will depart Leuchars station for the course at the following times:

8.15am: Wednesday 21 August
6.00am: Thursday 22 August
6.00am: Friday 23 August
7.15am: Saturday 24 August
8.00am: Sunday 25 August

Buses will continue transporting fans between Leuchars and the course throughout the day and up until the last return train time.

GolfLink tickets are available to purchase now on the ScotRail website - please select 'Golflink (QGL)' as the destination station when using the journey planner. This ticket price includes the cost of the return bus journey to the course and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.

Concession travel prices are not valid on GolfLink services.

By Bus

Stagecoach is the operator of the 99 service, which connects St Andrews to Leuchars and Dundee, and the 95 and 97 services, which connect St Andrews to the East Neuk of Fife.

These local services are complemented by an express network that provides links from Glasgow (X24) and Edinburgh (X58/X59/X60) as well as local links such as Dunfermline (X24), Cupar, Glenrothes (X59/X24) and Leven (X58/X60). All Stagecoach services stop at St Andrews Bus Station, which is approximately a five-minute walk from the golf course.

Tickets can be purchased on buses or via the Stagecoach Bus App. Further information on planning your journey, including timetables and tickets valid for multiple journeys, can be found on the Stagecoach website. All local buses accept contactless payments.

Moffat & Williamson also operate services which connects St Andrews to Cupar, Glenrothes, Leuchars and Balmullo. The nearest bus stop to the golf course is St Andrews Petheram Bridge, which is a few minutes’ walk to the venue entrances.

The Go-Flexi taxibus connects rural areas of Fife that aren’t serviced by public bus routes. Journeys can be booked any time from one week to one hour prior to travel, however this service is very popular so advance booking is strongly recommended. By Road

All public parking will be located onsite, free of charge and no pre-booking is required. The public car park is located next to the main entrance and Festival Village. Please follow the black and yellow event signs provided by the AA.

Directions

From the North/Dundee

Follow the A90 or A92 towards Dundee to pick up signs for the Tay Bridge (A92). Once across the bridge, follow signs for the AIG Women’s Open.

From the West/Perth

Leave the M90 at J9 and follow the A912 towards Abernethy. Turn left onto the A913, still following signs for Abernethy/Newburgh, then follow signs for the AIG Women’s Open.

From Glasgow

Leave Glasgow on the M80 then after J7 keep left to join the M876 towards Kincardine Bridge. Continue to follow signs for the M876, then the A876 to cross the Clackmannanshire Bridge. Pick up signs for the A977 and continue to follow the A977 towards Kinross. Join the M90 near Kinross, then leave at J8 and follow signs for the A91 towards St Andrews. Continue along the A91 and follow signs for the AIG Women’s Open.

From the South/Edinburgh

Follow the A90/M90 to the Forth Road Bridge (Queensferry Crossing). Continue to follow the M90 and leave at junction 2A to join the A92 towards Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes. Stay on the A92 until the Melville Lodges roundabout, then turn right onto the A91 and follow signs for the AIG Women’s Open.

There will be two temporary taxi ranks and private hire drop off/pick-up areas in operation for the AIG Women’s Open from 21-25 August. One is located within the public parking and a short walk from the main entrance. The second is located on The Scores, close to the 18th green. These locations are shown the spectator map here.

Please note, Uber does not operate in St Andrews.

AIG Women

National Cycle Route 1 runs right through St Andrews and links to Strathkinness, Guardbridge, Leuchars, Tayport, Dundee and beyond.

A cycle park will be provided close to the venue entrances – more information on the cycle park will be made available here and on the site map once available.

Minibus and Coach Parking

All minibus and coach parking is provided free of charge and is located within the onsite public parking and walking distance of the main entrance.

Spectators with disabilities

All parking is complimentary at the Championship and will be a short distance from the main public entrance. Please present your Blue Badge on arrival, one of our attendants will direct you to the area reserved for Accessible Parking.

Spectators with mobility impairments or specific accessibility requirements are advised to telephone the AIG Women’s Open Ticketing Team in advance on +44 (0) 1334 460010. Our customer service team will be able to advise the arrangements that will be in place to assist spectators with additional mobility needs.

local area restrictions

To assist with traffic management and reduce congestion in the vicinity of St Andrews, temporary traffic regulations and parking restrictions will be introduced.

These will be enforced by Fife Roads and Police Scotland in order to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses, assist traffic flow and increase safety and security for all road users.
