No caddie, no problem!

Lindsey Weaver is enjoying going “back to the basics” at the AIG Women’s Open, as she continues to excel without a caddie.

One of five players who has chosen to go it alone this week, amid heightened COVID-19 restrictions, the amiable Weaver has cut a recognisable figure pushing her trolley around Royal Troon.

The world number 289 laughed off a mishap on Thursday, in which her trolley fell into a bunker while she played from another sand trap

After carding a 72 on Friday to sit inside the top 10 at one over, Weaver made it clear she was comfortable looking after her own bag.

“It's been pretty good, so not too much to complain about,” she said with a smile.

“I feel like it’s kind of back to the basics. This is how junior golf was. This is how college golf was and on the Symetra Tour when I played there for a year. I mean, it's still just golf. Not much has really changed.

“There’s no one to fight with, no one to argue with, whatever I say is the final decision, obviously!”

Weaver joked that she was still trying to get sand out of her bag after it fell into that bunker on Thursday. The incident can perhaps be explained by the age of her trolley.

“I’d like a functioning brake, because I have brakes but they don’t work very well because my cart is more than a decade old,” she added.
